Hannah, a band not an individual, have put together a great little ep that contains some powerful indie orientated roots rock that bizarrely, at times also reminded me of Suzy and the Banshees.
It's a three tracker, but the last cut, "Empire" lets the side down more than a little, especially when it's compared to it's predecessors. Where they are strong, performed with confidence and come at you with a demand to be listened to, “Empire”, seems to be aware of it’s own limitations and hangs out like the runt of the litter. It’s problem is that it has the lightest most delicate role of the three songs. It doesn’t kick as much, and a well written lyric stops it from being too bad. I’d put it’s fault down to production and the mixing desk, the vocal is too loud for the song and overpowers. It may be that Hayley, the lead vocal was trying too hard to overcome it’s short fallings. That said it is a song with potential given a bit more thought.
“You’ll Remember”, the second track, is definitely the jewel in the crown. It’s a song with plenty of attitude about a relationship that has plenty of fire and passion. It’s a song the band believes in and it shows. The song has a rough and ready appeal, it’s not going to be the most note perfect piece you are even going to hear. Polish it up and you’ll knock the edge off.  “You’ll Remember” is delivered from the heart, it’s as refreshingly honest as it is direct. The band call a spade a spade and in terms of it’s attitude it’s very if you don’t like it so what, this is how it is.
That might make you think the third track, “Somewhere And Nowhere” fulfills the middle ground and whilst it does, it’s significantly closer to “You’ll Remember” than “Empire” in both attitude and delivery.
Hannah are a band that call out for you to see them play live. I’d guess the stage was where they cut their teeth and learnt their craft and it seems to be paying off. There’s two tracks here that are like throwing petrol on the bonfire to really get the party started and well, sometimes, two out of three ain’t bad.
