Paul McClure's new release, "Standing At The End Of The Line" sees him making a major move forward by taking his influences from further back.
"Standing At The End OF Time" is reminiscent of bands like Badfinger. It's a lot more rock than the previous cuts, but still retains that blues/folk undercurrent. There's a driving element to it that gives it
the spirit of the highway.
This is particularly true of the 2nd track "Hero When I'm Done", it includes an infectious rhythm that could have been drawn out of Sun Studios before being hardened and given an English sounding top edge
that would leave many a lesser pub rocker crying in it's wake.
Whilst the road and bad, wild women have been a common theme in blues rock, McClure delivers without resorting to cliche.
Yes there is a touch of familiarity with both tracks, but there is also a newness that the tracks pull towards. It's a homage to it's origins, but it does so without being a carbon copy.
"Standing At The End Of The Line" is a new patch on the demin jacket. You're familiar with the clothing, but it's distinct enough to warrent it's own place on the billboard.
McClure seems to have resolved his direction and has hit the road hard, laying down a couple of tracks that have done him proud
